Advent Notebook, December 5
Weather: Raw, but no precip.
Watched: Supersize Me, with Big Lad (who is doing a unit on health and nutrition, or lack thereof).
Pleased because: Big Lad loved The Omnivore's Dilemma, and is eager to read more Michael Pollan.
Worn out from: three singing gigs in as many days.
Ready to: help St. Nicholas fill shoes with clementines and chocolates for tomorrow morning.
Number of Advent candles a-glowing tonight: nine; this year I decided to do one for each day.
Looking forward to: Little Lad's school Christmas program next week.
And speaking of Little Lad: he was just awarded Student of the Month status, for good behavior and Excellent Citizenship. How d'you like that?
Still feeling the glow from: last week's Irish music workshop, led by this charming lady.
And also from: Big Lad's holiday band concert (whew -- lots of music happening around here!).
Grateful for: thick wool socks and hot water bottles. And the promise of some sleep.

Oh Lynn! So beautiful...I just heard for the first time tonight Bruce Springsteen's version of "We Shall Overcome" and am now listening to it for the fourth time in a row, tears streaming, for Christmas has come to me listening to it...and I came here and your photo and the simple human sweetness of all you shared just add to the poignancy of it all...
Sending you a warm embrace though the miles,
xo

Sounds like it isn't slowing down over there either! I do love your notebook posts - not as good as being there with you, obviously, but I can picture you all reading and singing and playing and being good citizens (go Little Lad!)
way to go Litte Lad xoxo
Love reading about your daily life and yay for LL
Hooray for the Student of the Month! And ditto the notebook post love.

How proud you must be of both Lads.
Student of the Month - great stuff. And totally beautiful photo. Looks a lot calmer and less busy than you've all been!
"Good behavior and Excellent Citizenship" - somewhere there is a teacher thinking "This young lad is a pleasure to have in my class" which must give proud Mom and Dad a warm glow from the moment that you wake up until you go to sleep - no?
Christmas program?? I'll keep tuned in so as not to miss that!
This is a truly lovely blog and I shall be back for more comfort and inspiration.
You're still on a high from your Irish music workshop, I'm still on one from an international guitar festival my son's (he's only seven but PASSIONATE) teacher organised which ended with a four hour concert featuring a newly composed piece performed by seventy children from central France and professional guitarists from Latin America, Spain, France, etc. Wonderful.
Greetings from France.
One very proud Mama of two fabulous boys.
Love the simplicity of the photo.
